Novigrad is located on the northwest coast of the Istrian peninsula, 25 km from the border with Slovenia. Put about 15-odd kilometers away from nearby urban centers - Porec, Umag and Buje.

Novigrad in the past
The area of Novigrad was already inhabited in ancient times, as evidenced by numerous historical and archaeological sites. In written documents Novigrad was mentioned as Neapolis in the Seventh century, as Civitas Nova in Ninth century, and from XII. century from church sources as Emona, Emonia, Aemonia. From the Fifth/Sixth to the 19th Century it was the Bishop'sheadquarter.

About Istria
Istria is the largest Croatian (Adriatic) peninsula. It is situated on the Adriatic northen part of the Adriatic Sea on the territory of Slovenia, Croatian and Italian. Geographic boundaries lines of Istria goes from the Bay Miles (Muggia) to Preluka.

Istria in the past
Name Istra according to some sources, derives from the Illyrian tribe Histri, who lived in the area. Illyrians, Romans are described as notorious pirates who knew how to take advantage of the fact, though, because of the numerous shallow shoreline is very dangerous for navigation. Istria was conquered by the Romans after two military campaigns - 177 BC. when there wins Consul Manlije Vulzon. Last Histri resistance are provided in your seat Nesactium (lat. Nezactium) near Pula. The last defenders, including the last king Epulon who are deducted their life throwing it to the walls of the city.
